Engaging friends and visitors with your Art Collection

Yes, you buy art for yourself, but secretly you want friends to know you are an art collector and you want to show it off. How do you do that without being too obvious? Tell them you have a new piece of art and then get them engaged with a conversation something like this ... Ask, "1. Is the hand returning the fish to the sea, fishing from the steps? 2. What kind of place is that? 3. How did the beach get on that step? 4. Is the arm really posing between the bars?" (Answers ... 1. Rescuing the fish from falling down the steps, 2. It's one of the Sagrada Família cathedral stairways in Barcelona, Spain, 3. The beach photo from Aruba was careful excavated into the step, 4. The artists wanted to make the photo look as real as possible by creating shadows from the bars to fall across her arms).

Symbolism - Art that tells a story about life

I like a challenge, so many times I create images purely out of my imagination of things that don't exist. In my Abstract Symbolism Collection, I use images that symbolize events or passages in my life. The art tells stories using symbolisms so the viewer/owner of the piece can re-tell the story. It's a way to engage your friends or visitors in your art collection.

In this piece, the table with the balls represents a time in our lives when we are either following or leading others like balls rolling around on a table. At some point we are all ready for a new direction to head in, so we line up our sites and shoot for the next plateau or a plane just beyond our reach. To get to that point we need to acquire knowledge, (represented by the pyramid shape), and once we get our head on straight, (represented by the ball on top of the staircase), we become ready for the journey. If you look closely, you will note a small ball traveling down the clear tube from the table, to the staircase and finally to the targeting device that will propel us to the next phase or plane of our life.
